On-Demand Storage for Supply Chain

If I ask “What is the most important thing for the Supply Chain?” there are many different answers.

For me, flexibility is the most important thing for the supply chain.

Flexibility is the ability to change and adapt to change in a short time with little cost and effort.

For companies, managing supply chain and logistics in normal times is a piece of cake. On the other hand, if there is an emergency or unexpected situation, if something needs to be done outside of routine operation or planning, sudden changes in customer demand, special periods such as campaigns or Mother’s Day, and returns or recalls, managing the supply chain and logistics becomes difficult. Managing this, or rather adapting to these changes, requires skill.

This skill is flexibility and the agility that comes with flexibility. Thus, companies can change and adapt to change in a short time with little cost and effort.

Flexibility in transportation processes, when needed, is easy. There are many alternative solutions you can implement at short notice. For example, you can change the type of transport, use different means of transport, rent as many trucks as you want from the market at short notice, or buy several trucks at short notice if you are very tight.

On the other hand, you may not be so flexible with warehouses. Warehouses, unfortunately, kill flexibility. Because you cannot find the most suitable warehouse when you want, you cannot find the most suitable warehouse where you want, you cannot change the size of your warehouse when you want, and you cannot change the location of your warehouse when you want because there are not enough warehouses for logistics services, it is difficult and troublesome to find suitable warehouses, warehouse investment is expensive, warehouse investment takes a long time.

In short, it is not as easy for supply chain and logistics to adapt to warehouse-driven change as it is for transportation.

Warehouses are the heart of the supply chain, where goods are collected and prepared for distribution, just as the heart is the organ that collects blood and distributes it throughout the body, so flexibility is provided by on-demand storage.

A simple definition for “On-Demand” storage could be “Airbnb” style storage. Airbnb, as it is known, is a technology application that matches those who want to stay short-term in any city around the world with those who want to rent out part or all of their home in that city.

With “On-demand” storage, those who need flexible storage can find storage space at the location, time, duration (date range), size and features they want, without the need for a long-term contract, and pay for it on an as-used (duration and size) basis.

DepOrtak offers a technological solution that enables “on-demand” storage.

DepOrtak “on-demand” storage solution is a technological application that allows those who need storage space for their goods anywhere at any time to find the most suitable storage space and pay for the time and space (size) they use for this storage space.

DepOrtak matches storage spaces that will not be used for a certain period of time or remain idle with those in need of storage space, enabling both the utilization of idle storage spaces and the availability of storage space in the time, duration, location, size and features needed.
